Capcade Impact Foundation & UN Habitat aim to develop technology in service of the SDG Cities Initiative

Davos, 23 May 2022, the Capcade Impact Foundation announced today during the World Economic Forum that it has signed a letter of intent with UN-Habitat to develop a global data and finance infrastructure for the SDG Cities Initiative.

Raphael Auerbach, President at Capcade Impact Foundation, said: “UN-Habitat’s SDG Cities Initiative aims at engaging 1,000 cities to share ideas, knowledge and experiences on building sustainable cities. We want to
support this initiative with digital data infrastructure to foster effective collaboration between cities, UN-Habitat and its expert partners. By supporting the designing and building of data infrastructure, we hope to help cities join the SDG Cities Programme faster to begin positive and effective collaboration. The year 2030 is just around the corner, so it is time to support cities to scale as many sustainable projects as possible.”

Klaus-Michael Christensen, Head of Sustainability at Capcade, added: “Not all cities are equipped with the latest digital infrastructure technology to benefit from effective communication and collaboration. We want to help UN-
Habitat develop and deliver tools that connect cities to each other, to global investors and to the UN SDG Cities Programme partner network.

The support will enable cities to collaborate with UN-Habitat’s urban development partners to create investable
projects with blended finance from international development funds to attract traditional and impact investors to close the financing gap for sustainable development.

Cities, especially smaller cities, will benefit from digital infrastructure that will enable them to connect with international development funds, but also with their local community of urban partners and investors. Capcade
Impact Foundation aims to work with UN-Habitat to ensure that all cities joining the SDG Cities Programme have access to cost-effective digital connection with UN-Habitat and the ability to build their own local ecosystem.

Cities’ sustainable development strategies are critical today for nations to achieve their commitments to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The SDG Cities Initiative aims to formulate and fund development
projects with country-specific Sustainable Development Goals.

Our support for digital infrastructure enables UN-Habitat to effectively implement the Global Urban Monitor Framework to monitor and report on progress to accelerate the implementation of the New Urban Agenda.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos from 23 to 26 May, Capcade Impact Foundation will engage with partners and cities to join UN-Habitat’s collaborative movement for sustainable urbanisation.

The Capcade Impact Foundation will engage with parters and cities to join UN-Habitat’s SDG Cities Programme at the 2022 WEF
